Films We’re Most Excited for Arriving September 2022

Whether it’s with your partner, friends or on your lonesome - there’s truly nothing like a cinema trip. Weird and wonderful, wacky or wholesome; there’s always a film for you at your leisure … but if you’re anything like me, you miss out on these marvelous movies (or in some cases hilariously bad ones) with no idea they’re even previewing, let alone that they exist!

And, that’s exactly why I’ve created this list of best movies coming to cinemas near you in September 2022.  For the strange and unusual, the hopeless romantics and those that just need a giggle - this is for you.

Honk For Jesus. Save Your Soul.

Honk For Jesus. Save Your Soul. is a comedy/satire movie arriving in cinemas September 2nd. The film stars Regina Hall, most famous for her role in the Scary Movie franchise as Brenda Meeks. Brenda Meeks!

Bre… I mean… Hall plays the proud first lady of a Southern Baptist megachurch, Trinitie Childs, who, throughout the movie, desperately attempts to rebuild their following and reconcile their faith after her husband, Lee-Curtis Childs (played by Sterling K. Brown) gets involved in a huge scandal. The movie is filmed in a documentary type style and did I mention it stars Brenda from Scary Movie? God, I love that film…

Most importantly, the movie has an all-black cast, which is a huge win (and a refreshing change). Go Hollywood!

Bodies Bodies Bodies

Bodies Bodies Bodies is a comedy/horror/thriller with a great name that totally isn’t a real mouthful (and pain) to say. The story follows a group of rich young adults throwing a party at a remote family mansion (never a good idea might I add) who decide to play a game by the name of (here we go again) bodies, bodies, bodies - seriously, have these people ever watched a horror movie? That sounds like a blatant death trap. And, to no surprise, that’s exactly what it is. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

I know I probably sound pretty critical of its plot, but the truth is … I love the sound of it! Horror movies are my favourite, especially when they're ‘so bad, they're good' - it’s truly a guilty pleasure of mine.

Bodies (a much easier name to digest, by the way) is brought to us by none other than A24, the company famous for incredible media such as Midsommar and Hereditary. With that alone I have more than enough reason to see this movie on September 9th.

I can’t wait!

Crimes of the Future

Hear me out, this next one is pretty weird but it seems oddly… intriguing? Crimes of the Future is a drama/horror/sci-fi film that is based around human evolution but in what I can only describe, possibly the grossest way imaginable. With the help of his partner Caprice (Léa Seydoux), Saul Tenser (Viggo Mortensen) showcases the metamorphosis of his organs. Yes, you read that right. His organs.

For all you lovers of gore, Crimes of the Future comes to cinemas September 9th.

See How They Run

See How They Run is a comedy/mystery movie, perfect for any lovers of the whodunit genre.

Set in 1950’s London, a desperate Hollywood producer decides to turn a popular play into a film. However, it isn’t long before those part of its production start to turn up dead and it’s up to Inspector Stoppard and Constable Stalker to figure out who's responsible.

If you like movies like Murder Mystery, starring Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler, you’ll love See How They Run, coming to cinemas September 9th.

Ticket to Paradise

If you love Mama Mia, you’ll love this next one. Ticket to Paradise is a romcom starring huge names like George Clooney and Julia Roberts and coming to cinemas on the 16th September.

The story follows a divorced couple that must travel to Bali and team up to stop their daughter, Lily (Kaitlyn Dever), from making the same mistake they did - getting married. The twist is, however, they can’t stand the sight of one another.

Tickets to Paradise is brought to us by Universal Studios, the same company that gave us fantastic films like the Jurassic Park franchise, the Fast and Furious movies and both Mama Mia! and Mama Mia! Here We Go Again.

Need I say more?

Shark Bait

Want another cheesy shark film to watch? Look no further. Shark Bait arrives in cinemas September 20th.

This movie is your typical shark thriller and follows the story of a group of teens who steal a few jet skis, driving them far out into the ocean. Recklessly, the teens crash into one another and become stranded. They must attempt to get back to shore whilst being hunted by a shark who swims amongst them.

Of course, nothing will ever compare to the true masterpieces that are the Sharknado movies but we’ll still give it a watch!

Don’t Worry Darling

This next movie is probably the most highly anticipated on the list and, in all honesty, that’s probably down to the fact it stars singer Harry Styles in one of its main roles…

But, it also looks really good.

Set in the 1950’s, Don’t Worry Darling is a mystery/thriller movie starring incredible actress Florence Pugh. It follows the story of a housewife, Alice, living with her husband in a utopian experimental community. She soon begins to suspect that her husband’s company is hiding something extremely disturbing.

The film is distributed by Warner. Bros, which has brought us incredible films like The Batman, Beetlejuice and, most importantly, the best movie of all time, Scooby-Doo.

Sounds promising. Let’s hope it lives up to the hype!

Smile

Now, I’m a horror fanatic. I’ve seen it all. Every Scream movie at least a dozen times, the Saw movies without even a squirm, but the trailer for Smile had me feeling really uneasy. I’m not sure if it was the creepy smiling or… you know what? No, it was most definitely the creepy smiling, it is TERRIFYING, and luckily for you it’s coming to cinemas on September 30th!

The story follows Dr. Rose Cotter (Sosie Bacon), who begins to experience unexplainable and downright horrifying occurrences after a traumatic session with one of her patients. It seems as though the smile is some sort of curse and whoever it touches dies within a week. It’s similar to the tape from The Ring, except much, much, much creepier somehow.

Seriously, I cannot shake it from my brain. Yuck!

Does it absolutely horrify me? Yes. Am I still going to watch it? Of course! If anything, I don’t want to sleep for the next 3 weeks. Bring it on!

Flux Gourmet

You know I had to bring this list to a pleasant ending and, so, to finish it off, a movie about rainbows and unicorns! Yay!

I’m lying, of course. This movie looks absolutely horrific but in a good, stomach-churning kind of way.

Flux Gourmet is a comedy horror/drama about an institute focused on culinary and alimentary performance, or in easier to understand words, an art organisation that works mostly extracting sounds from various foods. Not weird at all …

To summarise, this movie is about people fighting to gain control over others and/or their inner demons, but in the most disturbing and odd kind of way.

I’m not entirely sure what’s going on in the trailer, but I know I’m slightly disturbed … Asa Butterfield is in it though, and I loved him in Sex Education! If it gets too creepy, I’ll close my eyes and think of sweet Otis Milburn.

It arrives in cinemas on September 30th. Are you brave enough to see it?

And with that, we come to an end to our list. Did any of these films take your fancy? Let us know and keep an eye out for more blogs coming from us soon!
