As the New Year begins, a lot of us look towards planning for the year ahead with a positive mental attitude. Finding yourself stuck for motivation? Finding a New Year slightly daunting? Here are our tips on how you can motivate yourself in 2020.
Change-up Your Desk
If it’s the work-related motivation you struggle with, a great place to start is your workplace. After all, a tidy space is a tidy mind. Have a clean-out of your workspace, bin all those post-its that you don’t really need and spruce up your desk. It could be in the form of new colourful pens, a plant to add an air of the outdoors, or simply a photo of loved ones next to your computer.
Plan Look-Forward-To’s and Rewards
Many of us may feel a blank New Year ahead to be a little overwhelming, so it’s a good idea to plan nice things to look forward to. This could be a weekend away, a cinema trip with snacks, or simply a day in the diary where you do NOTHING all day. Having something to look forward to can get you through when times are tough, or simply having a reward after a long work week can really help.
Buy a New Diary or Planner
Having a brand-spanking-new planner is a great way to get organised and plan ahead. Here, you can plan all of those look-forward-to’s, as well as getting yourself organised so you can visually see what lies ahead in the next week or month.
Write a To-Do List
Feel overwhelmed by the amount of work you have to do this week/month/year? Write a big to-do list, writing everything down from your head. Then, split this into importance - those with deadlines or greater importance can go on one list, and everything else on another. Not only does this make you feel more organised, but it can help decrease stress as you are moving all of your thoughts onto paper where it is more physical - leaving space in your brain for other things (such as dog memes!).
Ask for Help
It’s okay to ask for help. You can tell your loved ones or a friend about the goal you’re setting, this will help you to stay accountable, and they can also help to keep you motivated and reach your goals.
Remember to think positively! The main way you can stay motivated is by staying positive and optimistic - this will allow you to grow from any mistakes you make along the way, as well as learn from your experiences.
And it’s important to remember not to be too hard on yourself; it’s okay if you don’t feel motivated every day, but small changes in your daily life can make all the difference.
